WhatsApp is going to
introduce a new feature “Kept messages” which will allow WhatsApp users to save
disappearing messages. What is a message kept? It is a disappearing message
that has been momentarily saved, which means that it will not be immediately
removed from the chat and that all participants can still see it. Users can
still opt to "un-keep" a message at any moment, in which case it will
permanently vanish from the chat but they will still be in control of the
conversation. Although the functionality is still under development, we wanted
to provide you some more information today:
Users can recognize communication that has been kept in WhatsApp by looking for the bookmark icon, which
can be seen in the message bubble of messages that are about to vanish. Even if
the disappearing messages feature is enabled and the message has already
expired, this icon acts as a visual cue that the message has been "preserved"
and will not be removed from the conversation. Users may quickly discern
between messages that are kept and those that simply vanish from the chat
thanks to this functionality. It's important to remember that everyone in the
chat has the ability to remove these messages at any time.
As always, we don't know when
users will be able to use the feature that WhatsApp is currently working on to
keep disappearing messages in the app. When we have more information to share
with you, we'll post another article.
